Installing a single expansion anchor can be completed in three simple steps. The most common applications for concrete anchors are medium duty in concrete, brick, block, and stone. This type of expansion anchor is recommended for shear loads and when the bolt will be subjected to side pressure. There are different size anchors depending on the concrete weigh and type of support needed. Once fastened, expansion anchors can be unbolted, removed, or refastened.

1. Drill hole of recommended diameter, see chart below, into the base material to a depth equal to, or slightly deeper than the length of the expansion shield. Clean out the hole of all dust and cuttings.

2. Place the Single Expansion anchor, nut end first, into the hole. The top end of the anchor should be flush or slightly below the base material surface.

3. Place the object to be fastened over the anchor in the base material and bolt into place. The bolt should engage 2/3 of the threads of the anchor.
The single expansion anchor is a female anchor that can be used in concrete, brick or block base material. The anchor size is designated by the inside diameter of the anchor and the hole that needs to be drilled is the same size as the outside diameter of the single expansion anchor. The exact hole size is marked on the side of the anchor.
Once you determine that you need to use a single expansion anchor in your application, a high quality hole needs to be drilled in the base material. A hammer drill should be used as it will create the best quality hole. Once the bit is chucked, the depth of the hole to be drilled can easily be set by using the depth gauge on the hammer drill or by wrapping tape at the depth that is required on the bit.
Make sure that your ears and eyes are protected before using the hammer drill. Also ensure that the hammer drill is in the hammer mode and start drilling your hole. Continue drilling into the base material until the required hole depth has been reaced. Once the hole is complete, it must be cleaned of all concrete dust to ensure correct fastening. Using a wire brush and a vacuum or compressed air, clean the hole until it is completely clear of all debris & concrete dust. Once the hole is completely clean, insert the single expansion anchor with the nut first into the hole. Tap the anchor lightly with a hammer to get the anchor flush with the base material. Place the fixture over the anchor and insert the machine threaded bolt through the fixture and into the anchor. Test that the bolt is finger tight- once it is, use a wrench to expand the anchor. You will usually need 1 or 2 turns to set the single expansion anchor. Continue this process until all concrete anchors have been properly installed in the base material.
